Dependable Tips to Remove Nicotine & Cigarette Stains

remove nicotine cigarette stains1

If Nicotine residue is left untreated for a long time, it is only possible to remove the stains by hard labor. Most of the time, it is already too late after trying all possibilities. To make matters worse, the last resort is to involve harsh chemical-based cleaners. However, these can destroy the surface in an instance if not being careful.

Over time, the nicotine discolors pretty much everything in yellow. Similarly, the whole house has a very disgusting smell of “old cigarettes”. Since the smell can be tackled very easily by opening the windows for some time, the yellow nicotine stains are still all over the place.

A very ugly yellow haze is being formed on all windows and doors. It will give a very unpleasant impression towards guests visiting your place. Of course, they may not say it out loud, but the gossip behind your back is for sure: Look at his/her house, it is so dirty as it was never cleaned in ages.

You can have the most beautiful furniture and interior decoration, which is to no appeal when the nicotine haze spreads all over. But, wait a solution is not that far away.

THE REASON WHY YOU SHOULD REMOVE NICOTINE STAINS

Yes, it does look ugly and at some point in time, it also can create other health issues. Besides, if the stains are not treated, they can develop into mildew which is far worse when a person inhales these small particles. Another key-point is when it comes to renting out or selling the place (the same goes for a car). You will right away limit your chances to smokers only. A non-smoker or a family will never rent a place in such a bad condition.

HOW TO REMOVE NICOTINE STAINS SUCCESSFULLY

Using only regular soapy water or household cleaners will most of the time not tackle the nicotine stains. They are very stubborn and some harsher treatment is necessary.

CAUTION: TEST ALL THE CLEANING PRODUCTS FIRST ON A SMALL AND NOT VISIBLE AREA OF THE OBJECT. THIS AVOIDS ANY POSSIBLE DAMAGE

REMOVE NICOTINE BY USING ACTIVE GLASS CLEANER FOAM

I have to very seriously point out that only a glass cleaner foam version does work. Please do not use any regular glass cleaner as it will be to no avail. I have tested this on normal plastic, wood, metal, and ceramic surfaces with great success. It works only if the nicotine that adheres to surfaces and NOT already settled surfaces such as wallpaper. Spray the area with the foam and let it settle for around 10-15 seconds. After this, use a sponge or old cloth to wipe it clean.

A side note: Please be very careful with sensitive surfaces such as TV or monitor screens. As each glass cleaner is different, please use common sense and read the instructions if such cleaners are suitable for the treatment area or not.

USE RAZOR FOAM FOR GLASS & PLASTIC

In many cases, razor foam can be the savior to tackle nicotine stains. Given that razor foam has a bleaching effect, I do not advise to use it on colored plastic/glass. Spray some of the foam onto the stain areas and let it settle for half a minute. Afterward, please use an old cloth to wipe clean the area. Perfect, the situation is under control.

DEPLOY WAX, GREASE & DIRT REMOVER PRODUCTS FOR HELP

As nicotine stains do have a greasy film similar to fat a slightly roughened sponge (not too rough!) is useful to loosen the stains. Very useful and powerful products are oven cleaner or kitchen grease remover as in the kitchen environment a lot of fat from cooking is produced.

Apply some of the cleaners on the stains, let it absorb and wipe clean with a slightly roughened sponge. To avoid any damage from these harsh products, clean with clear water, in the end, to avoid streaks.

HOUSEHOLD REMEDY: CONCENTRATED LEMON ACID

Another great remedy is to use lemon acid. You do not need to go out and search the supermarket for concentrated lemon acid products as you might find the solution right inside your own kitchen. A fresh-squeezed lemon mixed with some water is all that you need.

The best part, it is 100% natural (no chemical) and the lemon-water mixture also cleans your own hand with ease. Add half a lemon in warm water and mix it well. Start to apply on the areas as needed.

A QUICK SUMMARY OF OTHER REMEDIES:

  • You can also use a mix of denture cleansing tablets and water
  • White Vinegar mixed with water also is an alternative remedy
  • Plastic Parts such as wall plug covers can be cleaned in a dishwasher
  • All the bed sheets, table cloths, etc. are easily washable by your washing machine
  • To clean carpets, I would recommend either to hire a profession carpet cleaning company or rent a carpet cleaning machine for a day at your local hardware store
  • A last resort solution to get rid of nicotine stains is by Ozone. It is quite expensive and only a professional expert can do it.
